Becoming a Boss or just Bossing Around

Being the boss or the business owner doesn’t mean you can act like the king of the world every time you are in your company’s premises or during office hours. Arrogance will take you nowhere. It is essential that you have a good employer-employee relationship going on in your office for better business communication and employee productivity.

Genuine respect is earned not implemented. If you want your employees to genuinely respect you and not just seem to respect you but talk against you behind your back, you have to respect them first. Treat your employees as business partners and not inferior individuals as they are your partner in achieving success in the business. A college diploma, a certificate and lots of money don’t make you smarter than them as each individual has his own expertise, skills, knowledge and experience that others, including you, don’t know. Therefore, learn not just to talk but to listen to their opinions as well as this is a chance for you to learn new things.

It is also advisable to conduct or hold team building activities like out of town trips or company parties to strengthen the bond and friendship among your employees. Employees that treat each others as friends or even family have the tendency to work well with each other thus promoting team work.
